You don’t have to write fiction, however. There are plenty of non-fiction books, self-help books, or even guidebooks that you can create and sell.
Secondly, you only have to make them once, and they can keep selling forever (while you sleep or do other things too). I recommend making e-books a part of a series, so readers can go from one book to the next, making you more passive income.
Once you have written your e-book, putting it up for sale is easy. It’s as simple as uploading it to a platform like Amazon, Payhip, or Gumroad.
Sell digital goods on Gumroad
Do you have digital products and services ready to go? This can be e-books, digital templates, music, and more.
You should make an account on Gumroad.
It is a platform and marketplace that lets you sell digital goods (and physical goods) for free.
Though they do take 9% commissions + $0.30 on each sale you make, that percentage goes down as you hit earning milestones. The lowest their commissions go is set to 2.9% as of this writing.
Another way to make extra passive income on Gumroad is by creating an affiliate program for your store. You can choose how much you want to pay your affiliates from 1-90%, and give them coupon codes to give out too!
Rent out your spare room or property
If you’re someone with an extra property or room, you can turn it into a passive income machine.
There are three main ways to do this:
- Use an app like Airbnb or VRBO
- Become a landlord and manage tenants yourself
- Use a property management company and have them manage everything
Landlording and property management are better for properties in general.
Whereas, apps like Airbnb and VRBO will let you rent out a room or even a small onsite location like an out house.

I recommend two ridesharing apps: Uber and Lyft.
You can also use both if for more passengers.
Do odd jobs & handyman work
Are you the person that is always doing stuff around the house or helping friends move?
Consider getting paid for your skills using the TaskRabbit app.
TaskRabbit is a free app that connects people with handyman, moving, and delivery service workers. These service workers are known as “taskers.”
Making a few hundred bucks a week is quite standard as a part-time tasker, but it’s not unheard of to make close to $2000 per week after becoming efficient.

They also pay quite well. Typically, they pay around $75 – $500 for as quick as 15 minutes, but I’ve seen as high as $1000 for an hour of time.

These scams either don’t pay what they say they will, have terrible communication, or are out to steal your information.
